Your Audition Book
What is your audition book?
Your audition book is a collection of songs from all across the musical theatre canon that best suit you, your voice and the stories you want to tell.
What should go in my book?
The repertoire in your book should cover the different eras of musical theatre canon (Golden Age, Megamusicals, Contemporary, etc) and also non musical theatre selections (Pop, Rock, R&B, 50s/60s, Motown, Country, etc.)
How do I decide what songs to pick?
Your book should consist of songs that can show off your voice and storytelling ability in above mentioned different styles. The most important thing for me is to love all your songs. If you don't love the song you're singing, then it isn't worth having in your book.
What are cuts?
Cuts are a small portion of a song used in auditions to see a lot from you in a little amount of time. You can see cuts requested in measures (8/16/32 bars), general length (Short, Brief, Long, Full Song) or time (30/45/60 seconds or more). It is recommended to have both 16 and 32 bar cuts of each song in your book. Having full songs isn't always necessary, but never hurts to have.
